Transitioning to UT Austin
On track to successfully complete the CAP requirements by the spring semester of your freshman year—the final semester of your CAP year?
In many ways, your process of transitioning from the UT System university you’re currently attending is a lot like that of a transfer student—minus, of course, the stress of applying!
Here are some things you may want to start thinking about:
Your major
When we contact you in the fall of your freshman year (usually in November), we’ll ask if you’d like to be considered for a major outside the College of Liberal Arts. If you would, you’ll submit required application materials by March 1.

Orientation
After you receive your official admission letter from UT Austin, you’ll be able to register for Transfer Orientation.
Financial aid
Apply for financial aid as soon as possible after Jan. 1. You may also want to consider applying for scholarships.

Housing
If you’re interested in living on campus after you transition to UT Austin, apply for housing anytime after you accept your CAP offer.
