About Us 

The Government College of Technology, Coimbatore formerly known as Arthur Hope College of Technology, was started in July 1945. The Institute is one of the premier Engineering Institutions of the Country having a very large contribution to the academic and technological developments. Ever since that prestigious moment, it has set the standard of recognition standing out as an outstanding Institution with technical expertise.

Life at Government College of Technology, Coimbatore (Autonomous) 

Ideas are the source of innovation and innovation is the vital spark of all human change, improvement and progress". With this motto the institution has established Student Research Foundation(SRF) to initiate research and new product developments within the campus. Through SRF, innovative ideas from students are given funds and technical guidance required to develop them into full-fledged products and solutions.

CIVIL DEPARTMENT

This Civil Department was started in 1945 with basic equipment for Undergraduate Courses and extended in 1971 for Post Graduate Courses in Structural Engineering. Since 1945, Civil Engineering Laboratory has been modified and updated several times.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

In this reputed institution, the Department of Mechanical Engineering geared up in the academic year of 1952 with the Undergraduate Programme and in the year 1971 Engineering Design as a Post Graduate Programme continued by Manufacturing Engineering in the year 1980 and Thermal Engineering in the year 2002.

ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) is one of the two oldest departments of the institution spanning 75 years of existence which offers undergraduate programme B.E-EEE (and two post graduate programmes Power Systems Engineering and Power Electronics and Drives) and research programme.

ELECTRONICS AND INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEERING

The autonomous system is a buzzword today, where machines, equipment, devices and even automobiles are created to work independently. Thanks to Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (EIE) discipline which forms the backbone to make it happen.

COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

We the Department of Computer Science and Engineering ever since 1984 strive to create an ambience of academic excellence in which new ideas, research and scholarship flourish and from which the leaders and innovators of tomorrow emerge.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

We the department of Information Technology was started in 2001 to inculcate academic excellence in which new ideas, research and scholarship flourish to lead the innovations of IT industries.

BIO-TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING

The department of Industrial Biotechnology is one of the youngest, vibrant and radiant departments of GCT. Started in the year 2002, with an aim to train the young students to solve the growing challenges in modern biology and meet up the industrial needs technically in the field of biotechnology.

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

To provide every undergraduate and postgraduate student in Engineering Courses at Government College of Technology with mathematical experiences and mathematical ideas that will serve as a foundation for careers and further study in engineering.
